The class explores various practices of mindfulness meditation from the vipassana (insight) tradition, part of the oldest surviving branch of Buddhism — the Theravada lineage — cultivated in Thailand, Burma, and elsewhere.

Practices and topics we explore:

  • Mindfulness of breath
  • Mindfulness of body
  • Mindfulness of thoughts + emotions
  • Loving-kindness practice
  • Mindful eating
  • Mindfulness of sound + other senses
  • Walking meditation
  • Wise speech
  • Wise livelihood
  • Social justice / activism
  • Gratitude practice
  • Compassion
  • Forgiveness
  • ... and so on.

In the talks and discussions, we explore the teachings of the Buddha, who offered these practices as part of a path towards liberation from suffering.

Working with these teachings through the direct experience of practice, we train the mind and heart, cultivating wisdom and compassion — nurturing well-being in ourselves, in our relationships, and in the world around us.
